Dress: The Barefoot Bride

Doubt thou the stars are fire;

Doubt that the sun doth move;

Doubt truth to be a liar;

But never doubt I love.

There was absolutely, positively zero chance of us not quoting Shakespeare here in this blog. This day was all so much.

Alloweth me paint a picture by word for thee.

A sun filled sky kissed with a clouds haze. A dancing breeze that brought trees to life with the voice of the ancient symphonies. The lights, the tears of joy, the smiles and the dancing. The love, and pure romanticism that bled into everyone's hearts present for Alaina and Cody's marriage vows.

All too much to paint by word.

Tempted are we even to continue this blog in italics only for the romantic value. (plus our software doesn't have any cursive fonts...)

If there was a time ever to be earnest in our writing, it would be now. The way that this particular day panned out, was that of a photographers dream, and of a Bride and Groom's.

Twin Oaks Manor itself is nestled in a corner off of a wonderfilled country road. When we pulled up, we felt in the force that this day would be amazing. As we prepped our gear, a few of the bridesmaids passed excitedly by smiling and chit chatting about the day. We found Alaina inside of the manor the bridal suite having her hair made up. All the bridesmaids were present, and not a single drop of cheerlessness filled the room. Light poured in through the large sheer covered window and lit Alaina's already glowing face.

"Are you ready?" Shelby asked excitedly with a giggle.

"Oh, yes!' Aiana returned back immediately through the mirror.

We watched as all the girls made their final touches on hair and make up. Soon after the girls were prepping to put their dresses on, so we left to find the boys.

There upstairs the manor we found Cody's Groomsmen, cutting loose and ripping jokes like it was open mic night at the local Comedy house.

"Hey dudes, wheres the man of the hour?" Asked Rick when Cody wasn't there.

"He should be here. Here, i'll call him." One of the groomsmen responded. "Okay, man! Cool, bye!

Okay, he says he's walking in now.

From down the staircase, through the door in walked Cody, with a pride that could only be compared to the pride of a lion. Today was his day, and he knew it. As he came up the stairs, he was greeted by his brothers with a "Yeahh maaan!"

With Cody, we really wanted to capture his emotion and pride with his getting ready shots. We prompted him to think of his bride and the day to come. Cody reminds me of me (Rick) in the regard that you know how he's feeling, because he wears it like a badge. And today his badge was that of excitement and emotion. Gotta' love that.

After capturing the guys get ready, we had Alaina move with her mom to the piano room where she'd get into the gown she'd dreamed of for only her and God knows how long. Her Mom zipped her gown up, handed Alaina her Bouquet, and in an instant, she became a Bride. It really is an amazing transition that we're as photographers graced to witness. As a woman becomes a bride, becomes a wife. *swoon*

We were all then off to the porch of the Twin Oaks Manor where dad was waiting patiently to see his daughter, gown and all.

A first look with Dad was more than enough for anyone to choke up. In Dad's defence, Alaina was a story book bride, so we could only imagine how hard it was to keep it together once he saw her.

Bridal Portraits ensued, and so did the excitement, because Alaina knew what came next.

Did you guess what came next? No?

Ugh, fine I'll just tell you...Don't wanna be here all day. *Wink*

The letter reading and the first look, of course.

"Cody! Are you ready, Sir?" Rick asked as cody trotted down the stairs while checking his cufflinks one last time.

Cody offered up an immediate "Yes sir!" and an accompanying signature Cody smile.

We headed out to the Porch of the Manor.

Here, we begin the raw, untapped emotion that all Hollywood directors dream about. The Real Deal as some may put it.

We captured Cody sit down on the porch, open the letter from Alaina, and absorb the written word of his betrothed like the desert takes in a long awaited rain. The words must've struck him like the first and last words he'd ever read from her. A beautiful raw moment that we're so proud to have captured for them both.

As soon as Cody finished the letter, no pause was given as we had Alaina come to the front porch and stop at the steps. With Cody's back to her and the wind in her hair, she started for him. She stopped only a few feet from him. As he turned to see the girl he'd asked to marry him, now standing as his bride, all bets were off for the "No Crying" game.

There were only momentary gaps between hugs and kisses to breath. They both seemed like they never wanted to leave that moment.

Finally, the stage was set. With all of the guests in their seats, The bridal and grooms party flowed gracefully down the aisle into their positions in front of the Flowered Arch. The man of the hour takes his place, and stands tall.

Then, she was there.

As Alaina hugged her daddy's arm down the aisle, you could see the love and intent in her eyes. With only a smile she came face to face with her groom. A sniffle, and a giggle set the tone.

Their vows were exchanged concisely, yet true. With all the emotion and energy of the day pent up behind these two, the first kiss was beautifully fulfilling.

You know? "Church Tongue".

Yes... Church Tongue...It is a quote from the wedding singer... Sue me...

The march back down the aisle was filled with laughs and a tight embrace, yet less tense now that the hardest part was over.

The reception was held in a quaint and darling barn set right behind the Manor. Fairy lights hung from the rafters that lit the dance floor that Alaina and Cody shared for their first dance as husband and wife. To make the stakes of emotion high, the first dance song was performed by a guest and friend of theirs. The strings of her guitar and voice filled the barn with a charm that only a singer-songwriter can do. ***** Rolling Stone gave it a 5 Star Performance *****

Speeches were held at the head of the room as guests fawned at the newlywed couple holding each other. At last, the cake was cut, and the dance floor was graced by a band of dancing children breaking out their best "Fortnite" dance moves.

No reception in 2019 is complete without the "Floss" , "Orange Justice" or the "HYPE" .

Toward the end of the night, all of the guests funnelled out of the barn to light sparklers to send Alaina and Cody off. As the newly wed couple came down the aisle of loved ones, Cody stopped, dipped and kissed his wife in what would result in a gorgeously captured photograph. Most definitely a mantle worthy picture. We are so grateful to have captured these wonderful memories for these two. We had more fun than we can express, and even more knowing that they get to relive their day through our art.

Two thank yous to Alaina and Cody we'd like to give.

1. Thank you for letting us be your artists.

2. Thank you Alaina for introducing us to Atticus.

In the likeness of shakespearean poetry , Atticus the poet writes,

"Let me die first or I will die twice."

Oh, Romance!

Shelby and Rick

It was mid October of 2014, and a day like any other for Emma. As a stylist working in a busy salon near the holidays, every day seemed to be like any other. From booked clients, to an endless sea of walk-ins, familiar faces sometimes started to blend in together towards the end of a day. But one unfamiliar face stood out.

"Ryan." Emma announced his name off the list of walk-ins.

"Yep," Ryan said as he stood up from waiting in the salon lobby.

"So what are we doing today?" she asked him as he sat down in her chair.

"Just a buzzcut."

Who'd have ever thought that "Just a Buzzcut" could lead to such a beautiful day?

Emma and Ryan's Wedding Day.

When Shelby and I first met with Emma and Ryan to talk details of their big day, we had no idea how gorgeous it really was going to be.

"Bohemian on the Beach," Emma explained. "Blues, and muted greens, earth tones and you should see Ryan and the groomsmen's ties!"

The ties must really be something, because she's really excited about these ties.

"Are they color coordinating with the bridesmaids' dresses?" I asked her.

"Nope, they're map designs!"

As you'll see in our photos, these ties are really something. She had them custom made to tickle her map fancy. Yes, I said map fancy. As unique as it may sound I, along with Emma, have some fascination with maps: Old World maps, modern Geo-political globes, heck even road maps. Maps. Ok, I'm done saying maps. Every detail of Emma and Ryan's wedding was custom designed and beautifully detailed. From a handcrafted altar made by none other than Emma's handy Dad, to a stunning custom flower crown to match a drop dead gorgeous bouquet, every detail was executed to an artistic level.

Navarre Beach Florida, a vacation spot that Emma and Ryan fell in love with a couple of years back is where all the magic of this tale happens. Now, if you've never visited Navarre Beach, I could say that you've never lived, but that'd be too cliche'. But guess what? If you've never visited Navarre Beach...

This town is hands down, deer in the headlights expression incredible. Pastel blue and yellow houses, white sand beaches, scorched pink sunsets, and a warm, calm ocean. It had me wondering why I still live in Tennessee and I'm not riding a beach cruiser bike to my next wedding consultation.

"Dream house on the beach is booked!" Emma says on one of our phone calls a few months before the wedding.

"Is it sweet or what?!" I ask.

"OH EMM GEE."

Omg is accurate to say the least. When Shelby and I pulled into the driveway to this masterpiece they called a house, we couldn't help but feel slightly small. A brand new house complete with two decks, (front and rear) a salt water swimming pool and a third story ocean viewing deck. It was most definitely the Titanic of all the houses on the block. Emma's dream house was now a dream come true, especially when we found her relaxing with the girls having a few mimosas. Once Shelby and I settled our luggage in the house, we were off to celebrate with all their friends and family at the rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal was held at a beautiful pavilion right on the coast line. Snacks, drinks and toasts were enjoyed while Emma and Ryan's kids, Lila and Aiden, ran around with the other kids, digging and playing in the sand. As the sun set, Shelby and I gathered the family for a few group shots for a beautiful ending to the beginning of Emma and Ryan's wedding weekend.

The morning of the wedding, Shelby and I were greeted to a bridal brunch that would have made even Audrey Hepburn swoon. Mimosas, bagels, the most beautiful picturesque donuts, and a full fruit spread. The girls were hanging out in their robes, drinking and chatting excitedly about the day ahead. Shelby and I immediately got to work capturing all the little details that Emma and her #BrideTribe had worked so hard on. After brunch the girls started on their hair and makeup, while the boys worked on setting up the altar down on the beach. Later, we found the guys hanging out on the back deck and we took the opportunity to photograph them and their friggin' awesome ties!

As the vendors arrived one by one, Emma's dream day was all coming to life. When the cake arrived, everyone stopped what they were doing to admire it. It's not like they had a choice; it was too gorgeous not to. A beautiful three tier cake decorated with green succulents and bells of Ireland. Emma was so ecstatic, she couldn't even contain her excitement. So naturally, she immediately had to call Ryan to tell him. After the flowers and cake came, it was Emma's turn to get ready for her walk down the aisle.

As Emma's mom buttoned up the back of her wedding dress, Lila looked on in awe, and you couldn't help but feel the emotion in the room. With hair and makeup done, and flower crown in place, her maid of honor handed her the bouquet as the last touch.

"Gahh, this thing is heavy!" Emma joked as she slumped her shoulders while giggling.

I just stood in awe at the sight of this bouquet. Yes, this was a massive bouquet, and no I would not want to carry it. But it was stunning.

"Dude..." I said to everyone in the room.

"What?" Shelby whispered back to me while looking through her viewfinder to snap another photo.

"Dude... it's such a nice bouquet."

Shelby and Emma both gave me the classic look that basically said, "Well, yeah. It's a bridal bouquet".

But, dude... I'm a sucker for craftsmanship.

With a heavy 'ole bouquet, Emma was the most beautiful bride and was ready to walk to her love, Ryan. We followed Emma down to the beach where Ryan was waiting patiently to see her for their First Look. His expression could've filled a book had I tried to describe it. Their first look was so romantic! Every second was full of laughing, hugs, and kisses.

"Look at your tie! Oh wow!" Emma said adoringly to Ryan seeing him for the first time.

"Yeah, its pretty cool."

"You're shakin'! You nervous?" she asked him in the sweetest tone.

"Lil' bit." he quipped back smiling.

"Awe! Me too." she said as she rubbed his cheek.

Although most of us think of sun and sand, and not a cloud in the sky when envisioning Florida beaches, Emma's wedding day almost did not end that way. Hurricane Michael had just passed and narrowly missed Navarre Beach two days prior to her wedding day. "Luck" would be a good word to use, but as perfect as her day ended up being, I would use "fate" instead.

With Hurricane Michael in the rear view mirror, it was showtime. The sun was setting, the guests were seated, and Emma started down aisle pinned to her dad's arm.

Ryan stood tall and smiling with his groomsmen at his back. The bridesmaids, with their dresses whipping in the coastal breeze, watched as Emma met Ryan at the altar. After reciting their vows, the officiant read a closing quote that no one could deny was the cutest dang quote to have ever been quoted.

" We're all a little weird, and life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness and call it LOVE."

-Dr. Seuss

Emma and Ryan playfully call themselves weird.

We call them adorable!

"Alright, alright now!" Rick laughs and claps himself. "You know them from our recent blog, but now you can know them personally! Let's welcome Newlywed couple Josh and Stephanie Reedy, Ladies and Gentlemen!"

Sigh...

Fallon gets one. Leno had one for years. They even gave that stick in mud Kimmel a late night show. But what about Rick at Night? The producers over at NBC said they'd call me back, and never did. I guess that's show biz baby! Anyhow. Ehem.. Even though most of the scenario you just read isn't true (90% of it), it is true that we're welcoming back Josh and Stephanie to our blog stage. When Stephanie and Josh had first set out on the long and treacherous quest of seeking "Wedding Vendors", they'd hit a few bumps along the way. We were very lucky and honored for them to have chose us to tell their story. Because, holy beautiful weddings Batman! This wedding was immaculate!

Wrought iron gates, a spiral staircase, and Italian Cypress lined gardens that could melt anyone into a puddle of envy in six seconds or less was my prediction for this day, but it was actually 5 seconds.

We found Stephanie in the bridal parlor of The Cumberland House bustling about with her brides maids. Beautiful robes in a beautiful room was enough for us to melt immediately. Everything in this parlor is white. The floors, the mantle, the sofa and the Mirror are all so elegant and clean that the room it self makes you want to burn everything you own in your own house and buy a 5 gallon bucket of #FFFFFF Behr paint. As the girls finished up their make up, we found the boys downstairs engaged in a few boy antics.

The beer flowed and so did the video games. As the groomsman were tinkering around, Josh made his grand entrance to a roar by the guys! As the the hilarity and antics ensued, Josh started getting suited up for the biggest day of his life. As Josh tightened his tie by the large louvre blinded window, we applied a little bit of movie magic to our shots by using atmosphere spray in the air. (Please see Josh's getting ready photos). These shots came out much better than we'd ever hoped!

Once the groomsmen were dragged away from their games and were suited up, they all seated themselves around the room to open some pretty wicked groomsman gifts from Josh. (Including a "Hand of The King" Pin for all of them!) Few moments were spent without banter and laughter.

We headed back up the house's original stair case from 1870 to the bridal parlor. The dark teak wood of the banister takes you back to a time where candles would've lit your way all the way up the talking wood stair. Once again we found the girls, but this time they were finished with hair and make up and seated on the large white sectional chatting away. We took some totes adorable portraits of them and their adorable coordinated slippers. It was time for Stephanie to step into her gorgeous dress from Ballew Bridal. As she stepped in, her sweet Mom came to fit the back of the dress for her. All of the brides maids to this point were hidden away in the second room of the parlor, and hadn't yet seen her in her dress. With a count of three, they flowed into the room to see their best friend dawning her wedding gown. There was not a dry eye in the room!

We led Josh to a terrace under a few crepe myrtle trees. The wind blew slightly and the heat of the day was broken by the shade of the leaves. Josh stood and waited patiently while facing the out door alter and aisle. It was time to see his bride. She walked up to him, he turned to see her, and our best guess is that he fell in love all over again. She was beautiful. She was his.

The guests started arriving a little early as the always do. More than likely hoping to sneak the first looks of the Bride to be. They filed in, family by family and started to take seats on both sides of the aisle. Soon enough, There were only a few empty spots left. Josh strolled in with the confidence of Bond, James Bond, and his groomsmen followed suit. As Stephanie rounded the corner, every seat was quickly emptied again. They all stood tall to watch their friend, daughter and cousin walk past to become Mrs. Reedy.

The ceremony went off with not a hitch. or maybe just one hitch. Wink* Their first kiss sealed the deal, and off they were together down the aisle. This time, together.

The Terrace addition to the Cumberland house is like something that I remember from "Tivoli Too". A beautiful art exhibit and outside venue in Laguna Beach, CA. (Who's sadly since closed). A covered open air terrace surrounded by beautiful gardens. Im sure any "A Lister" would be right at home here. Josh and Stephanie went into their first dance like they'd been practicing for quite sometime. Yes... you have to practice dancing with you bride grooms! It's the law. Plus, its easy. (Check it out, bro!) These two were like duckies in a pond; natural and made for each other. Cake was served, but so we're donuts. YES DONUTS! I know! It's the newest craze and we can't get enough of it. Plus the Donuts are guaranteed to keep some level of police presence at your wedding, incase things get out of hand. Joking... Jeez...

After the slow dancing, Stephanie and Josh kicked the clutch in and dropped it into party gear! The proverbial rubber was burning with how lit this party was. Everyone who could dance, danced. Anyone who could party, partied HARD. (we're not worthy, we're not worthy!) We were extremely proud of the reception photos we got of their reception! A few more slow dances were shared and the music pumped on. But the highlight of the evening is when all their friends locked arms to shoulders in a people ring, whilst swaying together and at the top of their lungs singing See you again. But not to worry, the 1980's movie montage-esque moment was quickly swept away when the speakers started pumping out Backstreet Boys "I want it that way." Ladies and gentlemen, when I say the crowd went wild, it uhm... well, yeah... went wild! The last song of the night was over, and the lights in the terrace were brought up.

Stephanie and Josh's day was so beautiful and fun! We can not thank them enough for choosing us as their artists. So, Thank you, thank you, thank you Steph and Josh! And thank you ladies and Gentlemen. We hope you enjoyed the program. See you next time on Rick at Night!
